Google Announces Launch of Flight Search Feature for Mobile Devices

Revolutionizing Your Vacation?

We had reported late last year that Google had wrapped up the final legal requirements to purchase ITA, the same flight search software that powers kayak and trip advisor. Now, Google has officially announced the launch of the new Flight Search feature for Android and iOS mobile devices.

What Is Mobile Flight Search?

The Flight Search feature is optimized to work on mobile browsers and offers all benefits of Flight Search on desktop:

1.) Find flights quickly with results that load instantly and a list that’s easy to scan.

2.) Discover places to go on a map – see ticket prices for various destinations by surfing the map. You can filter by price, airline, or flight duration.

3.) Find the best time to go – Click the calendar icon to see what dates will get you low prices.

Google’s intention to make our airfare shopping much easier by working hand in hand with the newly acquired company to drive more traffic to airline websites, which in turn will result in more sales for the airline industry.  As always, Google wants to be the “go-to-guy” for your timeshare vacation hurdles, and by having one well-integrated portal for comparing prices and other flight attributes, they intend to capitalize on the 49% of travelers that choose to purchase their tickets online.

This represents the purchase and implementation truly coming to fruition.  It will be interesting to see how Google chooses to refine the software and services involving vacationing on a dime.
